Welcome to the August 7th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 6th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Team HR leader & tied for second in AL HR race. Slick Whit, the Ruler! Whit Merrifield demands a combo meal as well (fourth HR, second SB)
- Because an inside-the-park homer (two) is exactly what Christian Yelich needs to get going.
- Polanco Combo. Well, one got the HR (Gregory Polanco & one got the SB (Jorge Polanco).
- The Jays trying to start random dudes. So 2020.
- Somebody must have got too big for their britches. Tyler Chatwood suffers through 2.1 IP, 8 ER.
- Enter The Old Guard. Eddie Rosario, Byron Buxton, and Miguel Sano bringing the 2015 rookie love.
- FORE! Nick Markakis returns with a Monster Jam! Game over.
- Where has the 2019 Hunter Pence gone?
- A stranger walks into the bar. Everyone looks at him with a peculiar eye. He sat down & with a ringing voice, Anderson Tejada said, “Combo Meal, Please!!” (First homer & SB). He hit the ball hard too (two hits above 100 mph exit velocity). Got my eye on this guy.
- Daniel Murphy is striking out more (38.8%), but hitting better this year (two HR, .324 AVG)
- NL MVP?! For Trevor Story (fifth HR). It’s a celebration.
- Jose Peraza current performance…still have a job?
- What is you doing, Wade LeBlanc? You’re old enough to know you can’t turn & turn & turn & throw. This ain’t the tango.
- Matt Olson already back in the thick of things w/fourth long ball.
- Tommy Pham, what is a -1.4-degree launch angle?
- Watch out, Elvis Andrus. You’re looking a lot like Mallex Smith so far. Fourth SB, .195 AVG.
- “We are the champions, my friends!” ~ Dylan Bundy fans scream (9IP, 1 ER, 10 K) **Psst, he faced SEA** “AND WE’LL KEEP ON FIGHTING 'TIL THE END.”
- Did we not promise excitement? Shohei Ohtani w/ a cardboard crowd-pleaser (three).
- Looky here. Looky here. Gary Sanchez arrives with a THUNDER!
- Jose Altuve & Alex Bregman don’t need no stinkin’ trash cans. Third HR for each. “Excuse me, don’t forget my delicious combo meal.” ~ Altuve (second SB).
- Zac Gallen has become Mr. Automatic (6 IP, 2 ER, 6 K)
- George Springer wrist strain.
- I, too, would like to see a little more Mike Tauchman playing time.
- Jordan Montgomery did not season well in PHI. (4 IP, 5 ER)
- J.T. Realmuto (third HR) makes you consider drafting a catcher super early in 2021.
- Even more value than Yu Darvish… Carlos Carrasco. I don’t like the four walks, but the W & 8 K in 6 IP is nice.
- The Indians' offense was waiting & waiting. The Reds got the brunt of the explosion.
- Jose Ramirez & Cesar Hernandez filled up the stat sheet. Two times on the merry-go-round for Ramirez. Why is Cesar only 45% owned?
- Not to be outdone, the Royals matched CLE w/ 13 runs.
- Mr. Bo Bichette. You’re late (first HR). Enjoy the party.
- Is there some sale on combo meals? Jonathan Villar takes his seat at Chick-Fil-A (one HR, two SB). Yes, we would like a refill.
- Josh Lindblom was a smooth operator (5 IP, 7 K). The donation to Luis Garcia’s long-distance collection (three) was the only blemish.
- Endgame
- Lefties vs Ryan Pressly have a career .235 AVG. Kole Calhoun walked it off. Andre Scrubb, anyone?
- Taylor Rogers. "Sometimes this game is so easy.” Humble pie coming up. 0.1 IP, 2 ER (BS).
- Jairo Diaz (three). Yency Almonte poor showing helps Diaz secure the role.
- Liam Hendriks (four)
- Hector Neris (two).
- Craig Kimbrel gets work in nothing game & still gives up a run.
- Mark Melancon (W). Will Smith is back.
- Brandon Kintzler (three).
- Happy Friday. You've likely had a great week if you've been determined. Finish strong. Every day gets your best effort. Don't stop now. Download a meditation app & take a moment for yourself. You'll feel better.
