Logan Webb 2022 Player Outlook: Second Half Surge Has Elevated His ADP
3 years agoLogan Webb put together an excellent season for the Giants, producing career highs in innings, wins, ERA, WHIP, strikeouts, and K/9. He battled a right shoulder strain throughout the first half of the season, which required two separate IL stints and limited him to just nine starts (49 innings). He put up a solid 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over those starts but he truly shined in the second half, producing a 2.63 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 104:19 K/BB ratio over 99 ⅓ innings (17 starts). He logged 10 quality starts over that span, including nine straight at one point. His second-half surge gave him a rock-solid 11-3 record, 3.03 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 158:36 K/BB ratio over 148 ⅓ innings on the season. The key to his success was a career-best 6% Walk Rate (2.2 BB/9) and an absurd 62.2% Groundball Rate. He held his opponents to a 5.6% Barrel Rate (83rd percentile) and .329 xSLG (88th percentile) while posting career highs in Flyball Rate (12.4%) and HR/9 (0.5). Webb was able to induce soft contact and limit runs despite a 26.5% Strikeout Rate and opponents registering a .312 BABIP off him. There is a lot to like about the 25-year-old, including the pitcher-friendly ballpark that he calls home. He should reach a new career milestone in innings pitched next season, which will pair nicely with his low WHIP and an ERA in the mid-threes. His NFC ADP of 61 may seem high for returns like that but he should have a relatively safe floor with his age, pitch mix, and control.
