Christian Yelich 2022 Player Outlook: Risk Reward Pick With A Multitude Of Potential Outcomes
Whether or not you draft Christian Yelich in 2022 is basically down to how risk-averse you are. With an ADP of ~101, the former MVP and first pick in fantasy drafts has certainly fallen from grace and those hoping 2020 was an aberration will have been disappointed by his 2021 season. In 117 games, Yelich had a paltry fantasy line; .248 AVG, 9 HR, 51 RBI, 70 R and 9 SB. Over the last two seasons, Yelich has a .234/.360/.392 slash line and hit just 21 homers in 175 games, with 13 stolen bases. He did have two separate IL stints in 2021 due to a back strain and there's every chance that was lingering all year which will have undoubtedly hampered him. If healthy, Yelich should comfortably better his 2021 numbers but in the last three years, we have now seen his ceiling and his floor. His projections are somewhere in the middle of them which is understandable and if he does match his projections, he will provide value at his current ADP. If you cling on to some hope of a return to his ceiling, Yelich's expected stats were slightly better than his actual numbers and he still has an elite BB% (14.7%) which ranked in the 98th percentile. But any more back issues or a repeat performance of the last two years will mean drafting Yelich was a wasted pick.
