George Springer 2022 Player Outlook: Can He Bounce Back From Injuries To Become Major Contributor?
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer had an interesting first season with his new team. He produced decent numbers in the time he did play, posting a .264/.352/.555 slash line with 22 home runs, 50 RBI, and four stolen bases. However, he only had 342 plate appearances due to various injuries to his oblique, right quad, and left knee. His underlying numbers were more or less unchanged from previous seasons; he maintained an above-average walk rate but posted a 23.1% strikeout rate that was above his 2020 mark and was slightly higher than his 22.1% career mark. He also continued to hit the ball hard at a league-average rate with a career-high 19-degree launch angle. Given the stellar lineup he hits in, there is no reason to think that Springer would not be a contributor in at least HR, runs, and RBI in 2022 if he can stay healthy. Springer is currently being drafted without injuries in mind, going at pick 57 overall and outfielder 16. This range seems fair if he stays healthy, and while some fantasy managers may be a bit hesitant given his 2021 season, waiting until about pick 65 seems like the biggest discount they could reasonably get at this time.
