Can Melvin Gordon III Be Trusted In Week 1?
3 years agoEver since the Denver Broncos drafted running back Javonte Williams in the second round this year, Melvin Gordon III's fantasy stock has fallen. Most people expect Williams to eventually take over this backfield by season's end, and for good reason. With that said, Gordon isn't going anywhere anytime soon as long as he's healthy. The 28-year-old did deal with a minor groin injury in the preseason, but he's not on the official injury report ahead of Week 1, so we should expect him to be a full go. Gordon had a healthy 4.6 yards per carry in 2020 and finished just shy of 1,000 yards rushing, so the efficiency was there. The only thing really keeping him as more of an RB3/flex is Williams' presence. Gordon is expected to get the "start" this Sunday, but the Broncos could ride the hot hand.
