John Gant Takes Ninth Loss Tuesday
3 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher John Gant took the loss Tuesday against the Cubs. Gant didn't pitch badly, going five innings while allowing two runs on three hits, striking out five batters with no walks issued. He kept the Cubs lineup off-balance with his off-speed heavy approach, inducing an average exit velocity against of 84.8 MPH. The 29-year-old now owns a respectable 3.98 ERA but a ghastly 1.47 WHIP. Gant's control has actually been much better since the start of August, as evidenced by his 25:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Still, his upside is limited pitching for the Twins, who may start to call up some of their young prospect arms up from the minors.
