Luis Gil Strikes Out Eight In No-Decision
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil put together another strong start in Sunday's loss to the Mariners. Gil pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and walks while fanning eight batters. He generated an impressive 17 whiffs, 10 of them coming on his fastball, which touched a maximum velocity of 98.9 MPH. Gil followed up his strong big-league debut with an equally capable encore, as the strikeout ability he flashed in the minors has played very well with the big club. He has fired 11 scoreless frames with a 14:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in two starts against the Orioles and Mariners. Gil is worthy of a roster spot if called upon to make another start for New York.
