J.D. Martinez Lands On The COVID Injured List
3 years agoBoston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday. He wasn't feeling well and will be away from the team. It's unclear if Martinez tested positive or came into close contact with someone infected, as the results from the test weren't in yet. The 33-year-old will need to clear MLB protocols and is considered day-to-day. Martinez has been terrific in 2021, slashing .284/.350/.525 with 21 home runs, 68 RBI, and 69 runs scored across 449 plate appearances. Pitcher Tanner Houck was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. He will start the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. Houck was called up as the 27th man; he may be sent back down after the game. Fantasy managers should avoid Houck as a streamer against a loaded Toronto Blue Jays lineup.
