3 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Yermin Mercedes is on the active roster for Triple-A Charlotte and is in uniform for their game on Thursday after writing on his personal Instagram page on Wednesday that he was walking away from baseball permanently. It's unclear what is exactly going on with Mercedes, but for now, he remains with the organization and is hitting a nice .298/.365/.632 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 15 games since being sent down earlier in the season. The 28-year-old was a sensation in the first month of the season in his first real taste of major league pitching, but he cooled off and was sent down to the minors for more seasoning. He hit .271 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 262 plate appearances earlier this year. There's a chance he could be back up with the team in the second half if he decides to stick with baseball, but he won't be guaranteed regular playing time on a stacked White Sox team.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
