Gregory Polanco Dealing With Hip Inflammation
3 years agoPittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton said that outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) has been battling some hip inflammation. It's not attributed to one specific instance but has built up over time. Polanco has been out of the lineup the last two games, and now we know why. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter had a really bad June (.150-4-9) and is now hitting just .195/.269/.359 with nine home runs, 23 runs scored, 23 RBI and eight stolen bases on the season in 239 plate appearances. Aside from some speed, it's getting harder and harder to justify hanging onto Polanco in deep mixed leagues. Ben Gamel has started the last two games in right field and hit his third long ball of the season on Thursday. If Polanco needs a stint on the injured list, Gamel would become a short-term option in NL-only leagues.
