Justin Dunn Diagnosed With Muscle Strain
4 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Justin Dunn (shoulder) was diagnosed with a muscle strain in his right shoulder. Dunn recently landed on the 10-day injured list after exiting Thursday's matchup against Tampa Bay and will now be shut down for two weeks, with no throwing during that span. He will be re-evaluated after that, but fantasy managers could be without him for a while. Robert Dugger was called up to take his place in the rotation, although he isn't worth much from a fantasy perspective.

Justin Dunn Becomes A Free Agent
1 year agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Justin Dunn (shoulder) has chosen free agency after recently being removed from the team's 40-man roster. Dunn will have to prove he's healthy to get another shot with a new organization after he missed all of the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery to fix a torn anterior capsule in his right arm. The 28-year-old made seven starts for the Reds in 2022 and had a 6.10 ERA (8.31 FIP), 1.58 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched. In his four years in the big leagues (three with the Seattle Mariners), he has a 4.44 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 86 walks and 113 strikeouts over 133 2/3 innings and 32 starts. Dunn will likely miss a good chunk of the 2024 season as he rehabs from his shoulder injury.

Reds Outright Justin Dunn, Four Other Pitchers
1 year agoCincinnati Reds right-handers Justin Dunn (shoulder), Alan Busenitz, Vladimir Gutierrez (elbow), Brett Kennedy and Connor Overton (elbow) cleared waivers on Monday and were outrighted to Triple-A Louisville. Dunn missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury that needed surgery in September. Busenitz resurfaced in the big leagues for the first time since 2018 this year and had a nice 2.57 ERA in just seven innings of relief. Gutierrez didn't pitch at all in 2023 after having a setback while returning from Tommy John surgery. Kennedy wasn't effective in five outings (two starts) for Cincy, giving up 13 earned runs in 18 innings. Overton allowed 14 earned runs in 11 innings over three starts before having Tommy John surgery in May.

Justin Dunn Throws Side Session
2 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Justin Dunn (shoulder) threw a side session on Tuesday that manager David Bell said went well. Dunn has been targeted to have his first live batting practice session against hitters on Aug. 8, with a minor-league rehab assignment expected by Aug. 19. He has endured shoulder issues in each of the past two seasons and has been sidelined since spring training because of soreness in the subscapularis muscle in his right rotator cuff. There's a chance that the 27-year-old starter will be back with the Reds in the final month of the regular season in September, but fantasy managers in deeper leagues shouldn't get their hopes up. Dunn made seven starts for Cincy in 2022 and had a 6.10 ERA (8.31 FIP) and 1.58 WHIP in 31 innings.

Justin Dunn Shut Down For A Couple Months
2 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Justin Dunn (shoulder) was examined in New York and will be shut down for a couple of months after being diagnosed with inflammation in the subscapularis in his right rotator cuff. The good news for Dunn is that surgery wasn't recommended, and there's still a possibility that he could pitch in 2023. Fantasy managers should be avoided the 27-year-old everywhere to begin the season. He only made seven starts for the Reds last year and struggled to the tune of a 6.10 ERA (8.31 FIP), 1.58 WHIP and career-low 15.2 percent strikeout rate in only 31 innings. In his four big-league seasons, Dunn has a 4.44 ERA (6.23 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and 19.4 percent strikeout rate in 32 starts over 133 2/3 frames.
