Jose Devers Doubles Twice On Friday
3 years agoMiami Marlins rookie infielder Jose Devers had his best game as a big leaguer so far in Friday's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In fact, Devers was the lone bright spot in what is hopefully rock bottom for the Marlins. Devers started at second base and hit in the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. He now has eight hits this season, the same number as Isan Diaz despite having about one-third of the plate appearances. Devers won't ever hit for power, but he's shown a strong hit tool, has speed, and plays solid or better defense. There's a future for him as a regular major league starter, but he's just 21-years-old and manager Don Mattingly has already said (despite the on-field results) that Devers doesn't look like he's ready. We're likely to see Isan Diaz back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game.
