Ryan Weathers Makes Another Strong Start
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Ryan Weathers completed four frames of shutout ball Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Weathers pitched well over 78 tosses, permitting a hit and two walks while striking out five before being lifted for a pinch hitter. The 21-year-old continues to impress in his first big league season, owning a 1.31 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19 percent walk rate across 34 ⅓ innings (11 outings, six starts). While he's surpassed five innings in just one start, the left-hander finally appears built up to handle a true starter's workload. The headline numbers are great, but prospective fantasy managers should beware of his 5.17 xERA. He'll be a fringe streaming option next Wednesday in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.
