Out Routes Helped Corey Davis Break Out In 2020
4 years agoNew York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis broke out in the final year of his rookie contract with the Tennessee Titans in 2020, racking up single-season highs in touchdowns (five) and receiving yards (984). Davis had a catch-rate difference of +9.7 percent last year, the fourth-highest rate among receivers. He had 218 yards on out routes, also the fourth-most in the league. The 26-year-old also became a big threat deep down the field, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill didn't throw a single interception while targeting him. It was impressive that Davis rose to the top of the position last year while also gaining just 2.4 yards of separation on average. He parlayed that into a big deal with the Jets, where he'll likely be their top pass-catcher alongside Denzel Mims and Jamison Crowder. He should see plenty of targets, but can he match last year's production with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson at the helm?
