Whit Merrifield Records 14th Stolen Base On Wednesday
4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in the team's 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. The stolen base was Merrifield's 14th of the year, which leads the league by a significant margin. Fernando Tatis Jr. is second in the Majors with 11 stolen bases. Apart from the stolen bases, Merrifield has struggled a bit in May. He's slashing just .226/.327/.333 with only one home run this month. He hit three home runs over the first four games of the year, but has just one home run since. Expect to see some better power numbers and an increase in batting average soon. He's a career .292 hitter and he hit nine home runs over 60 games last year. Nothing in the underlying metrics suggests much of a departure from his plate presence in previous years.
