Albert Pujols Clears Waivers
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels first baseman/designated hitter Albert Pujols cleared waivers and is officially a free agent after the team designated him for assignment last Thursday. If he had been claimed, his new team would have been on the hook for the rest of his 2021 salary (almost $30 million). The Angels will now be responsible for paying the rest of his salary. The 41-year-old signed a 10-year, $240 million contract with the Angels after the 2011 season. He hit .256 with 222 home runs and a .758 OSP in 1,181 games with Los Angeles and ranks fifth in MLB history with 667 home runs and 13th with 3,253 hits. Pujols is one of six players with 500 homers and 3,000 hits, but it remains to be seen if he's willing to join a team in a limited role. The man they called the Machine was hitting just .198 with five home runs and 12 RBI when he was designated for assignment.
