4 years agoThe Seattle Mariners are calling up pitching prospect Logan Gilbert, and he's likely to get the start against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday. Gilbert, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, allowed one run on four hits while striking out five and walking none in his only start for Triple-A Tacoma this year. The 24-year-old right-hander was a first-rounder back in 2018 and could stick in the rotation for a while due to injuries to James Paxton, Nick Margevicius, Marco Gonzales and Ljay Newsome. Gilbert can throw strikes with all of his offerings and has plenty of swing-and-miss stuff. In 2019 in three minor league stops, he had a 2.13 ERA and 0.94 WHIP while striking out 165 and walking just 33 in 135 innings over 26 starts for Single-A West Virginia, High-A Modesto and Double-A Arkansas.
