Jose Soriano To Begin Rehab Assignment Soon
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jose Soriano (elbow), the team's No. 25 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to begin a rehab assignment in the next five to seven days, according to director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. The 22-year-old was taken in the Rule 5 draft from the Angels, knowing that he'd miss at least the first few months of the season. The right-hander hit triple digits with his fastball before having Tommy John surgery, and he'll need to be on the team's active roster when he's activated. Soriano's fastball/curve combination could be nasty in the big leagues, but he'll need to show better control of his offerings if he's going to stick with the Pirates for the rest of this season. He's likely to pitch in relief, where he won't have any fantasy appeal.
