Jonathan Villar Homers On Wednesday
4 years agoNew York Mets infielder/outfielder Jonathan Villar went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the Mets' 7-2 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader. The homer was Villar's first of the season. With J.D. Davis (hand) and Luis Guillorme (oblique) both on the injured list, Villar stands to see regular playing time at third base for the Mets while both players remain absent. In 51 at-bats on the season, Villar has posted a .235/.278/.392 slash line, with the one HR and five RBI, though he has no steals. In 2019, he hit 24 HR and stole 40 bases as a regular with the Baltimore Orioles, though his 2020 power numbers saw a significant decline from those totals while splitting time between the Marlins and Blue Jays. The 30-year old makes for a decent streaming option as a corner infielder in deeper leagues and NL-only formats, while he gets regular playing time, given his stolen base and sneaky power potential. Fantasy managers in need of stolen bases may wish to take a flier on Villar while he gets regular playing time in the Mets lineup.
