Tyler Duffey Picks Up Hold
4 years agoMinnesota Twins relief pitcher Tyler Duffey picked up his fourth hold of the season in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. Duffey entered the game in the eighth inning and sandwiched a double in between two outs before ceding the inning to Taylor Rogers. The former ranks second on the Twins in holds and has pitched to a 2.89 ERA in 9 1/3 innings, though his strikeout rate has declined while his walk rate has ballooned to a career-worst mark. Duffey has allowed a 94.3 percent Zone-Contact rate, which is likely a big reason why Statcast has given him a 4.22 expected ERA. He's capable of being that high-strikeout guy he was in 2018 and 2019, though it's best to tread carefully with him in holds leagues.
