Kenta Maeda Roughed Up By Athletics
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Kenta Maeda endured a rough outing in Wednesday's 13-12 loss to the Athletics. Maeda lasted just three innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits with just one strikeout. The veteran hurler served up three home runs, including two in one inning, in one of the worst outings of his career. While he doesn't rely on his fastball often, the velocity was down 1.4 ticks from his previous yearly average- and he induced only four whiffs. Maeda hadn't looked like last season's pitcher in any of his three previous starts, though he was at least serviceable- unlike on Wednesday. It's not time to panic yet, though Maeda's performance bears close watching moving forward. He'll get a bit of an easier matchup on April 27 against the Indians.
