Giovanny Gallegos Pitching Poorly This Spring
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos hasn't pitched much this spring, but he hasn't been great when he has. In seven appearances, he's pitched 6 2/3 innings, putting up an 8.10 ERA and 2.25 WHIP. He's still missing bats, as evidenced by his eight strikeouts, but when he's getting hit, he's getting hit hard. Coming into spring camp, Gallegos was fully expected to be the Opening Day closer for the Cardinals, but his struggles compared with Jordan Hicks showing that he's healthy could make for a tough decision when the season begins. Even if Gallegos is named the closer, the role might not be his for long. It's a tough situation in fantasy, and one best avoided if possible (though Hicks is looking like both the better and safer option in holds and standard formats).
