J.A. Happ Continues Buildup, Struggles Sunday
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher J.A. Happ continued his spring buildup Sunday despite his struggles against the Orioles. Happ pitched 3 innings, allowing six hits, five runs- four of them earned- while striking out two batters. The veteran left-hander was steadily moving along until his last frame- where he got himself into trouble in a four-run inning. Still, Happ made an important step in his goal towards building up to 70-75 pitches by Opening Day, as he went from hurling 29 in his first outing to tossing 49 in his second. The team is still hopeful he'll be stretched out enough for his first turn in the rotation, though executive vice president Derek Falvey said that the club could pair Happ with a tandem starter, such as Lewis Thorpe. Happ is more of a streaming option at this point in his career.
