Joey Gallo Still Has Elite Power
4 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo didn't mash the ball like we're used to seeing in 2020 -- his .378 slugging percentage was the lowest mark in any season where he's played at least 20 games -- but his expected slugging percentage was at .413, ranking in the 49th percentile. He also had an average home run distance of 417 feet, tied for the third-longest in baseball. Gallo had a 14.0 percent barrel rate, which was in the top 20 in the major leagues with a minimum of 100 batted balls. The 27-year-old was worse than ever against lefties (.143/.241/.386) last year after slashing .333/.427/.747 against them in 2019. You shouldn't be expecting a return to his 2019 self, but Gallo should bounce back in the power department at least, and he should outperform his current 164 ADP.
