Red Sox Close To Signing Hirokazu Sawamura
Matt Barnes, Adam Ottavino and Darwinzon Hernandez in the back of Boston's bullpen. The 32-year-old has a mid-90s fastball and also uses a split-fingered fastball. Sawamura struggled with the Yomiuri Giants last year but posted a 1.71 ERA in 22 games after being traded to the Chiba Lotte Marines. In nine seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball, he had a 2.77 ERA in 352 games (88 starts), including 73 saves the last two years for the Giants. Barnes and Ottavino have the most closing experience for Boston, but nothing is set in stone heading into spring training.
