Kohl Stewart Signs With Cubs
4 years agoThe Chicago Cubs signed free-agent right-hander Kohl Stewart to a one-year, $700,000 deal on Thursday. Stewart will offer depth for Chicago's starting rotation but can also serve a multi-inning relief role if needed. He has pitched in parts of only two major league seasons and comes with five years of club control. The 26-year-old will be stretched out to handle multiple innings in spring training but could wind up as a long man out of the bullpen, which won't give him any fantasy appeal. The Cubs rotation, as things stand now, includes Kyle Hendricks, Zach Davies, Alec Mills and Adbert Alzolay. Chicago also has a handful of prospects that could contribute, and they continue to search for potential starters on the free-agent market. Stewart opted out of the 2020 season with Baltimore due to concerns over COVID-19 since he has Type 1 diabetes. He has a 4.79 ERA in 17 games (six starts) with 34 strikeouts and 26 walks in 62 big league innings since being the fourth overall pick in 2013 by the Twins.
