Padres Interested In Sonny Gray
4 years agoThe San Diego Padres are looking for another starting pitcher and have interest in Cincinnati Reds right-hander Sonny Gray. Mike Clevinger (elbow) is set to miss all of the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. San Diego's payroll in 2021 will likely be lower than last season's non-prorated Opening Day mark of around $150 million. That means that Gray could fit in the team's payroll constraints for next season, as he's guaranteed an affordable $20 million over the next two seasons. The 31-year-old has improved his value in the last two seasons with Cincy and had a 3.70 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 72 strikeouts and 26 walks in 56 innings in the shortened 2020 season. Gray would be even more attractive to fantasy managers in San Diego with a better lineup around him.
