Yankees Open To Trading Gary Sanchez
4 years agoThe New York Yankees are at least willing to listen to trade offers for catcher Gary Sanchez, according to two sources. Sanchez really struggled during a shortened 2020 season, as he was replaced as the starter in the postseason by Kyle Higashioka. The Yanks want a full understanding of what free-agent infielder DJ LeMahieu will cost to keep around before they allocate resources elsewhere. Sanchez will likely receive a small raise on the $5 million he made through arbitration last year, but they won't just give him away. New York has shown interest in veteran Yadier Molina, but he's 38 years old. Until LeMahieu's market clears up, the Yankees seem unlikely to make a move with Sanchez. The power-hitting catcher had 34 home runs and was an All-Star in 2019, but he hit just .147 and struck out 64 times in 156 at-bats this year.
