Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/6) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 7th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 6th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Sometimes we just need a little luck. For example, the whole roster is decimated, leaving you with DJ Stewart. He lifts your chin up & says “It will be ok.” Three HR in two days.
  • It’s best to order in twos. Pete Alonso (10 HR) agrees w/ two monster grub hub orders. Make it a chicken….&…a waffle..w/ pecans, cinnamon, chocolate chips, bacon, brown sugar.
  • Celebrate good times. Aaron Nola w/ 5.1 IP, 3 ER, 10 K is a welcomed addition. Jacob deGrom’s 7 IP, 1 ER, 12 K was masterful.
  • He puts a nice table cloth out, with the nice hefty silverware, and even the good glasses. People just aren’t appreciative of Brandon Nimmo’s 26 R, 6 HR, & .400 OBP. 19% rostered.
  • Is Adam Haseley too busy counting his money to get hits? Only 24, we’ll check in next year.
  • Let’s check your taste buds. 7 HR, 46 R+RBI, 7 SB, .275 AVG. "Oh wow, I like that.” Bryce Harper. “Oh, no thanks, I’ll pass.” Color me confused.
  • Velocity down a couple of mph. Less SwingStrike (10%), more chase (38%). I don’t know how to treat you (in 2021) if I don’t know what's wrong, Patrick Corbin.
  • Yeah, yeah. You’re not getting all the HR of a younger man, but 7 HR, 62 R+RBI, .314 AVG at 1B from Freddie Freeman is still worth the price of admission.
  • Freeman humbly struts after hitting a 421-foot loaded tater. Marcell Ozuna chuckles in a way that could only be perceived as unimpressed. If it wasn’t clear enough, his 453-foot exclamation mark finishes his thought.
  • In case anyone’s curious, Randy Arozarena has arrived. 3 HR, 1 SB, .467 AVG in 15 AB. I’ll wait. It’s the Rays.
  • Starling Marte continues to settle in fine. fourth HR.
  • This is a rest stop. Squatters not allowed. How long do you plan on being here at .220 (AVG), Austin Meadows?
  • “Don’t stop, Beliebin’, hold onto that feelin’” Shane Bieber with 5 IP, 1 ER, 10 K.
  • Yelich, you can take the blindfold off now. (29% K rate). We know you’re human.
  • Nick Castellanos (12), was that a 429-foot letter sent to Mike Moustakas to describe how to get his groove back?
  • New venue, same Robbie Ray. 4 IP, 4 ER, 5 K.
  • Jose Peraza is so indecisive. He FINALLY has chosen McAlisters for his 1st pick two. (one HR/one SB)
  • How quickly does Rawlings leave the scene when a 6’4, 255 lb of rowdiness enter the room? 108 mph exit velo for Rowdy Tellez’ eighth long ball.
  • The distaste for Brandon Belt is outlandish. 39% rostered despite four HR, .469 AVG in the last two weeks.
  • Bobby Dalbec does his best smoke &mirrors routine. Third HR to cover 52% K rate.
  • Step back! Dallas Keuchel is 6-2.
  • Who is my next crush? Maybe Edward Olivares. I’ll do a deep dive so I’m not wooed by his second HR & playing time.
  • Edwin Encarnacion is so romantic with his eighth love letter. Of course, there’s little else there. No chocolates or flowers.
  • Victor Reyes is only 35% rostered?! Fix this, if only for the SB (six).
  • Framber Valdez, did you forget the safe word was Fruitcake? 7 IP, 8 ER, 2 K.
  • Kyle Tucker mashes his eighth tater & serves it with 66 R+RBI. Don’t give me any PT concerns in 2021. He’s in my strategy.
  • Aledmys Diaz (two HR) asks the important question we all want to know. Jose Altuve who?
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. is getting a little clingy. He can’t let Mike Trout go. 15-HR team.
  • It is with bewilderment that I report that Jason Kipnis hit his third long ball.
  • Question of the week: How close were you to dropping Kris Bryant?
  • The Cardinals whole 2020 situation has been frustrating. Tommy Edman (two) & Paul Goldschmidt (four) small fireworks haven’t been enough.
  • “If you don’t know me by now…you will never ever know me.” ~ Trevor Story (9 HR 11 SB, 52 R+RBI, .288 AVG)
  • Silky Smooth Corey Seager orders a double shot of espresso. 11 HR, 57 R+RBI, .331 AVG.
