Ty Buttrey Gets Save Chance Sunday, Gives Up Lead
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Ty Buttrey was tabbed to close out Sunday’s contest against the Astros in favor of closer Hansel Robles, but he was unable to lock down the win. It’s been a rough start to 2020 for Buttrey, who has now allowed runs in three of his first four outings. He combined to accrue six saves over the past two years and appears to be the next man in line should manager Joe Maddon turn elsewhere from Robles moving forward, but Sunday was not a step in the right direction. The nine earned runs that Robles has yielded thus far are an American League-worst, opening up save chances for other Angels, even as Maddon struggles to find a candidate that he can rely upon.
