Johnny Cueto To Start Opening Day
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler announced that starting pitcher Johnny Cueto will start on Opening Day on July 23 against the Dodgers. Cueto also received the nod on March 11, the last day of spring training before MLB paused camps due to COVID-19. The veteran right-hander threw more than 60 pitches in a three-inning intrasquad outing on Tuesday and gave up four hits and two runs while striking out three. The 34-year-old made four starts late last season after recovering from Tommy John surgery, so he should be mostly back to normal for the 2020 season. But Cueto is no longer a spring chicken and has seen his strikeout rate fall considerably. He certainly won't be very popular in DFS in his Opening Day start against a Dodgers stacked lineup.
