Jose Urena Somehow Earns a Rotation Spot Again
4 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena has earned a rotation spot, according to Marlins beat writer Joe Frisaro. In the tweet, Frisaro mentions that Sandy Alcantara will start on Opening Day, then some mix of Urena, Caleb Smith, and Pablo Lopez will make up the 2-4 spots in the rotation, with the fifth spot yet to be determined. Urena has proven to be a below-average starting pitcher in the past, and when given a chance to work out of the bullpen last season, he proved to be well below-average in that role as well. Despite plenty of pitching depth and exciting young arms available, the team has decided to go with Urena. Urena came up in 2015 and has accumulated just 2.8 fWAR in almost five full seasons. He's coming off a 5.21 ERA in 2019 and rarely strikes guys out. He's not a fantasy option.
