Landon Collins 2020 Outlook: Nothing To Write Home About
Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins was one of the premier safeties in the league in 2016, and now he is just another guy. The former New York Giants safety racked up 100 solo tackles, four sacks, 13 passes defended, five interceptions, and one touchdown on his way to first-team All-Pro in his sophomore season, but he has yet even to come close to those numbers since. In fact, Collins had only eight passes defended, one sack, and zero interceptions over his last two seasons. However, it is not all bad with D.C’s strong safety since he was on the field for 100% of the Redskins defensive snaps, and the team was dead last in time of possession. After all, being on the field is the first step to scoring fantasy points. Unfortunately, the second step is statistical production, and the former Crimson Tide safety is severely lacking in that department. This season, he will have plenty of opportunities to right the ship since the Redskins Defense should be on the field a ton, but he is going to have to improve on his 78 solo tackles and one sack from last year if he wants to be a viable starter for your fantasy team. It would also be ideal for him to catch an interception or two, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. If owners miss out on any of the top safety options, they can turn to the sixth-year veteran as a safe-floor defensive back with upside.
