Padres Still Motivated To Move Wil Myers
5 years agoThe San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox continue to discuss a potential trade involving outfielder Wil Myers in the last two days, according to sources. A deal to send Myers to Boston seems contingent on the Red Sox taking on roughly half of the $61 million owed to Myers over the next three years. Boston is interested in pitcher Cal Quantrill and prospects Luis Campusano and Gabriel Arias, although the Padres are unlikely to give all three up. The main purpose of the trade for San Diego is gaining salary flexibility, and it's unclear who they would acquire from the Red Sox. The 29-year-old has hit under 20 homers each of the last two seasons after combining for 58 long balls from 2016-17. He also hit just .239 in 2019 with a .739 OPS and 16 stolen bases. A move to Beantown would make him a little more attractive from a fantasy perspective in a better ballpark, but Boston's outfield is already pretty crowded despite trading Mookie Betts to the Dodgers recently.
