Dylan Bundy 2020 Outlook: Potential Value Increase In New Home
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Dylan Bundy has been oft-discussed this season after moving out of Baltimore to less hitter-friendly confines. However, his previous stats dampen some of the excitement. In 2019, his K-BB% decreased by 2.5% and his ratios were still at a bloated 4.79 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Yet, under the surface, there were some interesting developments for the 27 years old. Bundy limited hard contact, gave up fewer barrels, and pitched to career-lows in all the x-Stats (xBA, xSLG, XOBA, etc.). I fact, Bundy's Statcast metrics show remarkable similarity to rising star Shane Bieber. Bundy is not likely to experience Bieber's success, but there is a track record of pitchers with a poor fastball like Bundy's putting together strong campaigns built around sequencing and off-speed pitches. Now that Bundy has moved to a better pitcher's park, with a better defense, and a team more likely to give him an increase in wins, it's fair to wonder if the former top prospect could become a useful fantasy option. He's worth taking a chance on in AL-only leagues or late in deep-league formats.
