Trevor Cahill Signs With Giants
5 years agoThe San Francisco Giants signed starting pitcher Trevor Cahill to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training on Tuesday, according to a source. Cahill made 37 appearances (11 starts) for the Angels in 2019 and wasn't all that effective, going 4-9 with a bloated 5.98 ERA and 1.47 WHIP while striking out 81 and walking 39 in 102 1/3 innings pitched. He's never been much of a strikeout guy (career 6.8 K/9) in 11 seasons, but he can be effective in stretches if he keeps the ball on the ground with his sinker. Still, the 31-year-old might just be a swingman for the Giants rotation/bullpen and would be a low-upside streamer in the deepest of leagues if he's making starts with his new team in 2020.
