James Paxton Out 3-4 Months
5 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher James Paxton (back) underwent a microscopic lumbar discectomy with the removal of a peridiscal cyst on Wednesday and will be out roughly three to four months. It's a severe blow to New York's rotation and Paxton's fantasy value in 2020. The Bombers rotation consists of Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka and J.A. Happ, with possibly Jordan Montgomery stepping into the No. 5 spot. Paxton, 31, went 15-6 with a 3.82 ERA and 1.28 WHIP while striking out a healthy 186 hitters and walking 55 in 150 2/3 innings across 29 starts in his first year in the Bronx. He'll now be left to the waiver wire in most mixed redraft leagues to begin the season.
