5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was pushed aside for Melvin Gordon this week, but after Gordon proved to be ineffective on the ground, the team turned back to Ekeler to keep them in the game. He proved up to the task. While Ekeler only carried the ball three times for seven yards on the ground, he got plenty of work through the air. Working as the team's checkdown, Ekeler caught 15 passes for 86 yards. Unfortunately, it appeared Denver did this by design as they regularly left Ekeler alone enough to get the pass but regularly collapsed multiple defenders on him before he could turn around and get rolling downfield. Expect Ekeler to still see some work in future games, but don't be surprised if he goes back to last year's stats now that Gordon is back.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
