Alex Gordon Pitches For The First Time
5 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon got the chance to fulfill his childhood dream on Monday, though it wasn't under pretty circumstances. Trailing by 12 runs, Gordon was called in to throw 1 1/3 innings of relief. The 35-year-old gave up three earned in his surprise appearance, pounding the strike zone with casual sidearm fastballs. Gordon has struggled mightily this month at the plate, hitting just .145, so maybe a change of pace can help him regain his swing. It's highly likely that he won't be wearing Royal blue again next season, as there is a mutual option on his contract and he's clearly over the hill, so at least he got a unique experience as he bears down on what's likely the end of an era for KC.
