5 years agoColorado Rockies first baseman Yonder Alonso hit a rocket out to right-center in the top of the sixth inning against the Padres on Sunday. Though it was his first start of the weekend, Alonso actually homered as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's game as well. Along with the homer, Alonso walked three times in his five plate appearances on Sunday. Since moving to Colorado Alonso has been used sparingly in the field, instead mostly operating as the team's first pinch-hitter off the bench. He's done very well so far, hitting .345 with three home runs and three doubles in just 36 plate appearances. Unfortunately, with the log jam that is Colorado's infield, it's unlikely Alonso will hit his way into a starting job.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
