Jorge Soler Passed Over For Derby
5 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler was apparently one of the final options, but he was passed over for the Home Run derby this season. His 23 homers put him in a tie for third in the American League in big flies, but the organizers decided to go a different direction by opting for Alex Bregman for the final derby spot for the AL. Bregman also has 23 home runs, though only three participants are from the AL, and the other two have less home runs than Soler. Soler expressed disappointment as he was looking forward to going if selected, but he says he'll root for Carlos Santana instead. Superstitious owners surely remember what appearances in the derby have done to previous sluggers' swings, so perhaps Soler missing the cut will work out in his favor.
