Sean Newcomb Hit By Liner, Leaves Game
5 years agoAtlanta Braves pitcher Sean Newcomb was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of J.T. Realmuto in the third inning of Saturday's game. After being tended to by trainers, he walked off the field under his own power and was replaced by Touki Toussaint. Newcomb was making his first start since April 13 after a trip to the minors and a stint in the Braves' bullpen. Newcomb allowed three hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings during the start and was charged with two runs that Toussaint allowed to score. The line drive that struck Newcomb was hit at 102 miles per hour off the bat of Realmuto. Updates on Newcomb's status going forward should be available soon. As of now, his next start is slated for Friday on the road against the Nationals.
