Mark Andrews 2019 Outlook: The Lesser of Two Evils
6 years agoMark Andrews may have been the second tight end drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 but he was the first to have any type of connection with Lamar Jackson in the passing game. This makes him the one to own for 2019. At least to start the season. In 16 games as a rookie Andrews had 34 receptions for 552 yards and three touchdowns. This may not seem like a lot. However, it is solid for a rookie tight end with a rookie quarterback who can’t throw any better than Tim Tebow could. With the run game being the major focus of the Ravens team, it will be difficult for any tight end to finish as a top-12 player at the position. This means a lot of bad weeks if you decide to draft either Andrews or Hayden Hurst. Andrews though did finish as TE16 last season, any improvement could place him close to the top-12.
If you are looking for a top-five upside at the position you are going to be disappointed. A player like Noah Fant in Denver is a better upside play. But if you are just trying to fill out the position with your last draft pick Andrews very well could be your guy. He will not win you weeks like a Travis Kelce or George Kittle, but his baseline should be enough to not give you a donut either. You can do better, but you could also do much, much worse.
