Nick Foles 2019 Outlook - Looking to Play Savior Again
6 years agoNick Foles is a Super Bowl MVP and led the Eagles back to the playoffs again last season after it looked like they were dead in the water. He also had a miraculous season of 27 touchdowns and two interceptions before being sent to St. Louis and Jeff Fisher for Sam Bradford by Chip Kelly. These stats show his ability. But it also shows he has only done it in Philadelphia. Now in Jacksonville he will have to try to prove he can do it when the team is far less talented. Not only less talented but less well run. This will make things difficult for any quarterback who goes there.
On offense the weapons are far from stellar. Leonard Fournette can be a great running back. But his attitude, health concerns and work ethic leave a lot to be desired by coaches, teammates and fantasy owners alike. He is a true bell cow when it comes to carries but his receiving ability keeps him from being a perennial top-10 RB for fantasy. With backup T.J. Yeldon now in Buffalo the Jaguars drafted Ryquell Armstead from Temple. He is a player in the same mold of limited pass-catching potential as Fournette. In the receiving group, a big year was expected last season from Keelan Cole but he never emerged due to the rest of the offense being in shambles. If Cole and Dede Westbrook can breakout for Foles, he could finish as a top-20 quarterback. But as it stands now, he is not in the top 25 at the position.
If Nick Foles is able to perform near the level he did in Philadelphia the past two seasons, the Jaguars will be fine at QB. If you are in a super flex league, he can be drafted as a low-end QB2 or as your backup. In single-QB leagues, save him for a waiver wire bye week fill in.
