Whit Merrifield Closes In On Team Record

Kansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield hit safely again on Monday night, keeping his 2019 hit streak alive. To top it off, the streak is actually a multi-season one, and it's closing in on a big name. Merrifield has hit safely in 29 straight games dating back to last season, and Kansas City's team record is 30 games in a row, held by none other than Hall of Famer George Brett. Merrifield was a late bloomer and will likely have a bit of a short career since speed usually doesn't age well, but for now, he remains one of the best contact/speed options in the game. Another couple of days, and he may hold a permanent place in Royals history.
