Phillies Meeting With Bryce Harper Friday Night
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies owner John Middleton is in Las Vegas for more of a meet-and-greet with free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper on Friday night than a sign-a-deal, according to sources. Barring something unexpected, Harper and the Phillies won't strike a deal on Friday evening. However, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Phils locked Harper up over the weekend, as they have been the clear favorites to land the 2015 National League MVP for most of the offseason. The Giants, Padres and Nationals are on the periphery. The 26-year-old six-time All-Star is expected to land a deal in excess of the 10-year, $300 million contract Manny Machado received from the Padres this week. Harper hit just .249 last year but still had 34 homers and 100 RBI and would likely thrive in the hitter-friendly environment at Citizens Bank Park.
