San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton posted three goals with a plus-2 rating across 14:48 of ice time over 21 shifts in Monday's 6-5 overtime loss against the Boston Bruins. It was his first hat trick since Oct. 27, 2010. He netted the three goals on just three shots, becoming just the ninth player in NHL history to have a hat trick and a shooting percentage of 100 percent. Teammate Kevin Labanc also accomplished the feat on Feb. 9 in Edmonton, and his other teammate Tomas Hertl did it on Jan. 15 against Pittsburgh. Florida Panthers forward Joe Thornton (undisclosed) has been activated from Injured Reserve and will return to action on Thursday against the Devils. The veteran has missed eight games and enters the lineup on the third line. The Panthers have just lost Aleksander Barkov (lower body), so Thornton comes in at a good time to provide more center depth. The 42-year-old is way past his prime and boasts only one point in six appearances this season, but he'll get some power-play time and could play a more prominent role until Barkov returns. The Panthers captain is considered week-to-week. Sam Bennett will take his role as the first-line center.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Florida Panthers forwards Joe Thornton (undisclosed) and Sam Bennett (upper body) won't be available for Saturday's clash with the Bruins. Thornton was also placed on Injured Reserve, meaning he's set to miss multiple games. Bennett's status is day-to-day. After the weekend, the Panthers are off until Thursday, so there's a good chance that he ends up missing just one game. The former Flame has done a good job centering the second line, boasting four goals and three assists for the season. Sam Reinhart could now get a call to move to the center position with all the injuries. Florida also put Anton Lundell (upper body) on Injured Reserve on Saturday.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
