Nicklas Backstrom Excelling at Home as Red Wings Visit
6 years agoWashington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has scored 16 of his 24 points this season while playing on home ice, translating to 1.45 points per game in those 11 home games. Those 16 points include 10 power-play points and outpace his comparatively lower eight points in 10 road games. His Friday opponent, the visiting Detroit Red Wings, has allowed two goals or fewer in six of their last seven games but still give up 35.5 shots per game, which is the third-highest rate in the league. Despite Detroit's recent defensive success, Backstrom should have plenty of opportunities on Friday to extend his current point streak to four games.
