Drew Smyly Throws Simulated Game
6 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Drew Smyly (elbow) threw 23 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday and said he feels ready to pitch in the big leagues. The next step, however, will be up to the front office, but manager Joe Maddon is curious what the left-hander can offer the team down the stretch. The former second-round pick hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2016 with the Rays, so it's understandable for Chicago to be cautious. If anything, Smyly might pitch in long relief out of the bullpen as they evaluate him for next season. He won't have any fantasy value to close out the year.
