Aaron Nola Pitches Masterpiece Against Nationals
6 years agoThursday afternoon provided Philadelphia Phillies ace Aaron Nola with another important test in the NL Cy Young race. Taking on opposing ace Max Scherzer, the 25-year-old stymied the Washington Nationals, tossing eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out nine. This was Nola’s 11th consecutive outing of three runs surrendered or less. Not only was it a strong start to boost his Cy Young chances, but it was a necessary victory for the stumbling Phillies, who have fallen to second place in the NL East. The victory improved Nola’s record to 15-3, while his ERA has fallen to a superb 2.13.
